I made this 1st Birthday Cake from the "Hugs and Stitches" pattern from my daughter's first birthday plates and napkins.
The base is 2- 8" rounds and the top is a 6" round. I covered the bottom in pink fondant and then made the butterflies and flowers from fondant. Then the top I divided into three sections of color just like on the plate. At first I couldn't get the three sections to be seamless, but then saw that a little bit of the white buttercream coming through each seam looked kind of nice, so I left them.
I added the 1st, the flowers and butterflies- all made from fondant. For the top of the 8" round, I drew cross stitch lines with liquid fondant to give the "gingham" look. However, next time I won't make the flowers and butterflies to far in advance. They were too hard and I could manipulate them to curve to the cake edges without breaking. I had to do a lot of fixing to the butterflies.
I made this cake for my friends daughters first birthday. I just got an idea from cupcakes decorating. I made a huge cup cake using a glass mixing bowl, which is heat resistant, and a normal square cake. I cut out the side of the square cake to fit in the cup cake in the corner. I gave the huge cup cake the real image of it by using striped nozel icing tip. Then i decorated it normally. I then decorated the square cake with pink and white. Put smarties on the white and small ball sweets to make colourful. I then made no 1 and few gift present with foam and wrapped with foil and decorated with ribbons. It just turned out great!!!
Thanks for reading and hopefully it gave you ideas and made you happy just looking at it!!!
This was the birthday cake for my daughters 1st birthday. I had never baked a cake before let alone iced it but I think it turned out OK. I used a violet paste for the icing.
For the shape I baked 2 sponges. The first sponge I cooked in a small loaf tin and the second sponge I cooked in a rectangle roasting tin.
The sponge from the rectangle tin was the plain number 1 and the loaf tin sponge sat below the number 1. We then cut the top of the number 1 on an angle to get the correct shape. I cut both sponges and filled with cream and jam and covered the whole thing in purple icing and smarties.
I prepared this first birthday cake for my nephew's birthday. I got the idea from the Wilton book from 2004. It's a two tier cake covered with fondant.
The upper tier is a 8 inch vanilla cake and the bottom tier is an 12 inch carrot cake (Emeril's recipe from FoodTV.com) I prepared the number 1 melting white chocolate into the #1 pan. Prepared decorations and letters with fondant.
This cake is 100% edible (except the candle).
Just a fair warning, the Happy Birthday letters were irresistible for the kids. At the end of the party it had 4 missing letters. The kids loved it and everybody wanted a piece of the chocolate #1. It was a success!
