I found the Hugs n' Stitches theme on a few different sites. I thought this would be great for a little girl's first birthday. My husband's cousin asked me to make her daughter's cake. So of course I picked this First Birthday Cake.
I used both a strawberry and yellow cake mix and swirled them together to give more flavor and also make the cake thicker. After the cake was baked I evened out the top with a knife. I crumb coated with canned icing. I then spread a thick layer of white icing and evened out. I airbrushed the base colors. Then used a star tip to make the number 1. I used a writing tip to trace out the flower and butterfly then just filled in with different colors of icing.
Everyone loved this cake and it was so simple to make.
I made the homemade hugs and stitches first birthday cake for my cousin's little girls first birthday. This cake was made by using buttercream icing. I iced the cake into it's sections. Using a flower and butterfly cookie cutter, I made an impression and used a round tip to outline and a #16 star tip to fill in.
I drew the number one out on a piece of paper, cut it out, and traced the outline with a toothpick. The name was also done with cookie cutters. All the ladybugs and the bee were done free-handed using round tips. The top border is a reverse shell border and the bottom is a regular shell border using tip #21.

It is a 3 tier cake, a 10inch, 8inch and a 6inch. I used home made buttercream icing, which will crust giving it that smooth look as if though it is fondant. I used colored fondant to create the pearl bordeer, and I used cookie cutters for the letters. I also used piping gel to help the fondant letters stick to the side of the cake. When building the cake, I used four dowel rods in the bottom cake, and four in the middle. Every layer has a cake board underneath it, and then once it was all together I stuck a wooden shish ka bob stick down the center! Email me for further questions... firstname.lastname@example.org
I used a rainbow bit cake mix and fondant. I first made a cake out of the number 1 cake pan and covered it in fondant. I then cut circles and frogs out of the fondant with cookie cutters. Next, I made a large slab cake and covered that with fondant and put little fondant balls all the way around.
I then placed the first cake onto the slab cake, putting little fondant balls around that as well. I cut the letters out with a utility knife.
I was really happy with how the cake turned out and and pretty sure my son liked it too.
