I made my sister this 40 & Fabulous birthday cake :) There was no way I was gonna bring her down with all that Over the Hill stuff... I used heart shaped pans, 2 bigger layers on bottom with 2 smaller heart layers on top. I used Duncan Hines white cake mix. It's frosted with whipped cream cheese icing that was colored hot pink & the black was Wilton squeeze tubes. Mini OREOS made the polka dots & topped it off with a few froo froo feathers(I wrapped the ends wth plastic wrap). A little sign was stuck in the top using tooth picks. It turned out great & she felt FABULOUS instead of over the hill :) Her gifts included Pop Rocks with the POP covered to say "40 ROCKS" & Fire ball candy that said "40 & HOT!!"
I used a 9x13 rectangle pan for the graveside, and a 9 inch round for the tombstone. I always freeze my cakes before decorating as it makes it easier to cut them and frost them.
I cut a groove into the rectangle cake to make a place for the round one to sit. I cut off about 1/4 of the round cake and set it in the groove of the rectangle cake. The hardest part of this cake was finding gray food coloring. I finally found some at my local Hobby store. I crushed up Newman O's (organic version of Oreos) and put it on the graveside like dirt. I used a candy mold to make the roses. I used coconut colored green to simulate grass.
This is a cake that I made for my sister in laws 40th birthday this June. She loves animal print and so I decided to go with zebra. This is also a zebra cake reciepe cake too so it is striped inside!
The stripes inside the cake are made by putting in 1/2 cup of batter in at a time alternating between chocolate and vanilla batters. Always pouring in the center of the pan creating rings. Trust me it looks cool when you cut it!
The cake had vanilla filling and was covered in fondant. The flowers are gumpaste (my first time using it). It also has little edible pearls!
Everyone loved it! Id really like to do it for work one day!
I made this 40th birthday cake for my brother's birthday. To make this cake I used a rectangle cake pan and for the decorations I used a liquor bottle shaped ornament, four small plastic wine glasses, handmade gift boxes in various colors and balloons.
First I covered the entire cake with butter icing and I used tip 2C and Kelly green icing color to decorate the edges of the cake. Then I used tip 3 to put squiggly lines and dots in royal blue icing.
Lastly I put some mixed fruit in two of the wine glasses. The cake turned out simple but something very special to my family.
this is my first attempt at a two tier cake. I made a 6inch and 8inch butter madeira cake, and dowelled the bottom tier ready for stacking. Then put the top tier on a cake card and placed it on top of the larger cake, Both these cakes had been layered, buttercreamed and covered in fondant icing. The roses were modelled without cutters from sugar paste. The 40th birthday party is for my niece and the event takes pace tomorrow. I hope she likes the cake!......its a surprise.
