Homemade 4th of July Cake

by Mindy R.
(Bakersfield, CA, USA)

My family's favorite is red velvet cake, so for our family get together I decided to do the dessert. I just got into cake decorating recently so this is what I came up with fun and delicious cake. The frosting is buttercream, stars and strips are made of fondant and attached to wire to poke out from the top and sides. I stenciled out the letters. The decorations on top were purchased at a local arts and craft store to bring a little boom to the cake. This was a double tiered cake, I find that using plastic straws will work just as well as using dowels with a small cake such as this one. I have just learned how to do fondant and it was easy to get prepared ahead of time so I could just decorated my cake once I
had frosted it. Also, by putting the cake in the refrigerator once it is frosted before putting the fondant on it makes it a lot easier. I hope you all enjoy.

4th of July Cupcakes

by Catalina Aridas
(Orlando FL)

For the 4th of July, I made these patriotic cupcakes out of a regular box cake and fondant.

I cut out blue and yellow stars out of fondant and placed them on top of an already frosted cupcake.

I had more blue than yellow so for all the blue star cupcakes, I rolled a ball of yellow and placed it on top and in the center for more of a decoration. I did the same for one yellow star and a blue ball.

These cupcakes were a hit at the party and everybody was fighting over the last few!!! It looks very decorative in a cupcake tree as well :) A great centerpiece for any BBQ!

Homemade 4th Of July Cake

This 4th Of July Cake was fun! I made this cake for a friend's 4th of July party. I used a Wilton star cake pan. The cake is covered in fondant (tinted in royal blue). I used a star cookie cutter and cut blue stars out of the cake which I replaced with white stars (using Crisco to smooth the cake).

I tinted fondant in red (tasteless red), rolled it out and then cut it into strips. I then rolled white fondant into the shape of a rectangle. I placed the red strips on top of white fondant, approx .5" apart. I rolled it out and cut it to create and then draped the sash.

Coolest 4th of July Cake Idea 11

Homemade 4th of July Cake Idea

I made a flag cake for my son's Great Grandfather. He loves anything with flags on it. It is a 9x13 cake but it is 2 layers so you will need to make 2 cake mixes. The cake is chocolate and the frosting is vanilla and I just colored it. I had to add 6 more stars at the bottom, cause I made them too small.

It sure tasted good though. This 4th of July Cake Idea was a huge hit and it gave all the kids at the pool party a big sugar rush.

I made this 4th Of July Cake for my sister's 30th birthday. It's 2 tiers with homemade buttercream frosting. And I made the stars and strips out of marshmallow fondant.

It was the hit of the party!
