I just started making cakes on the side and this is one that I did for a lady who was turning 50. Each layer is vanilla cake with handmade pink and white buttercream icing. I used fondant to make the "banner" and the ribbon, swirls, and flowers. I also took black satin ribbon and used that to add at the bottom of each layer. I then dressed it up alittle and took "diamond" accents and placed them in the middle of each of the flowers and on the 50.
The cake turned out cute and the client was thrilled with it!
This 50th birthday cake was my very first BIG cake that I offered to make for an uncle's birthday party. I used a 12x8 oblong tin 4 times to double up the 2 cakes.
I then cut the numbers out by hand after leaving cakes to chill overnight in fridge. I used a basic Madeira recipe that I found online and filled with butter cream and jam then covered with fondant. I also made some vanilla cupcakes with vanilla frosting.
This cake I made using the 5 and the 0 cake pan molds, and trimmed to resemble a perfect five and 0. I made and chocolate MM Fondant (for the first time!). I piped the vine decorations out of chocolate ganache (I covered the caramel chocolate cake in ganache before applying the fondant). I made the flowers weeks in advance with gumpaste.
This 13x9 cake is devils food. Frosting is whipped buttercream. The character image is a frozen buttercream transfer. The lady this was made for love Maxine and I thought it would be perfect to capture her on the cake.
