Homemade Rugrats First Birthday Cake

I made this Rugrats First Birthday Cake for my husband' co-worker who's son and nephew shared a first birthday. I used a large circle cake pan for the base cake and then cut out a square using a square cake pan for the the present.
The whole cake is iced with butter cream icing then covered in homemade fondant.

Chuckie and Tommy are made out of fondant, it took me a little while to make them by looking at instructions from a Debbie Brown cake decorating book. The rest of the decorations are just colored fondant cut outs using cookie cutter for the circles and the letters, which are all stuck on with butter cream icing. The bow for the present I shaped and let set/dry/harden for a couple of days as well as the characters. They were attached using candy sticks inserted in the bottom and pushed into the cake to help stabilize them.

Over all it worked out pretty good considering I didn't really have a plan.

Coolest Speed Racer Cake 41

My son was watching the movie every day at the time of his fifth birthday so I decided to make the Speed Racer Cake. I also make the emblem on a sugar cookie. I took cupcakes in the shape of circles and diamonds and positioned them so that when the icing was added you could visualize the car.

For the hump where the steering would be, I cut a cupcake in half and laid it on its side to provide height. Oreos were used for the wheels, but everything else was cake and icing. The icing was made using buttercream icing. For the middle - gray icing - I used chocolate icing and added some black coloring.

The red icing is difficult to make, so the red was the only icing purchased (personally, I think some of the pre-mixed icing doesn't taste very good; however, it is hard to get a good red color in home made icing).

Coolest Totally Spies Birthday Cake

Homemade Totally Spies Birthday Cake

My daughter wanted a Totally Spies birthday cake for her 7th birthday. I made this by doing an icing transfer with wax paper. I found the picture on the internet and then flipped it horizontally (so the words would come out correctly once transferred to the cake) and printed it. I taped wax paper over the picture and then traced the outline in black. Then I filled in the rest of the colors. She was really happy with it.

For Erhardt's 3rd Birthday, he got a Shark Tale cake all the way from Sharktales. Another one of mom's own creations.

I used a normal Vanilla Sponge Cake in a round cake pan and cut out by myself. Icing made with Butter and Icing sugar with different colorants.

Everything was edible and made with love. He turned 7 now and still remembers his Shark Cake and the party on an animal farm.

Coolest Team Umizoomi Cake

by Angel G.
(Baltimore, MD)

This Team Umizoomi Cake was a cake for a co-worker's daughter who turned 2 and she loves Umizoomi. It was my first time ever hearing about this character so I was a bit nervous. But thanks to edible images, the cake was a success and everyone was extremely happy!

1/2 Sheet yellow cake
Yellow & white butter cream icing
