Ariel Cake

by Melissa

My daughter started talking about having an Ariel birthday in December, when her birthday wasn't until August, so I had some time to think about it.
I used a Wilton 12 x 18 cake pan for the ocean, and 3 rounds for the tiers. I used 3 10" Wilton cake plates to place the rounds on and the Wilton hidden columns to elevate the tiers. I made 4 batches of butter cream icing to ice all 4 cakes. I tinted 2 batches blue for the ocean and sprinkled blue crystals on the blue icing to give it more sparkle. I used graham cracker crumbs for the beach. I found the figures on Amazon.com and they worked wonderfully. The ocean part of the cake took 4 cake mixes to make sure that there was an even surface to ice. The ariel cake is elevated on a trifle bowl filled with water and blue food coloring.
