Onesie Cake 13

by Jamie T
(Harlan, Ky)

This onesie cake was made for a friend's baby shower. Actually on this cake I made 2 cakes, one done for a boy, one for a girl. I baked 2 half sheet cakes and cut them out like a onesie.

I made homemade icing:
1 cup shortening
1 stick butter
1 ts van. flavoring
1/4 cup milk
2lb bag powdered sugar

I did the boy onesie white with blue and green strips and wrote Daddy's Little boy and on each side of that I put a blue and green rattle. I did the girl onesie white with pink and purple strips saying Mommy's little girl with a pink and purple rattle. She didn't know what she was having so the pieces of cake I cut off I pieced together with icing and made baby blocks with it putting 123 and ABC's on it.

Coolest Baby Booties Shower Cake 9

Homemade Baby Booties Shower Cake

Homemade Baby Booties Shower Cake

This Baby Booties Shower Cake was the third fondant cake I have ever made. I got this idea for a fondant covered baby shower cake off the internet. The bottom layer is 9 inches and the top layer is 6 inches.

The booties are made from gum paste. I got the template for them off the internet as well, then had to enlarge the pattern to get the size I wanted. (I first made the booties out of paper until I got the correct size.) I had intended for the bows to have dangling ribbons, but the bows ended up larger than I would have liked.

Over all, though, I liked the finished product. The mother-to-be was able to keep the booties as a keepsake.

Coolest Onesie Cake 15

Homemade Onesie Cake

Homemade Onesie Cake

I made this Onesie cake by taking parchment paper with tracing of baby onesie and I cut it out and placed onto fondant and cut out shape with pizza cutter. The onesie was made slightly longer at bottom to be folded to make it look like it was snapped over and I made little circles for buttons, laid out precut circles out of fondant on onesie and sides of cake.

The hardest part was color dying the fondant in so many different colors, a good workout for the hands! I made babyfoot prints out of colored fondant on another cake (again with parchment paper tracing) and that turned out good too.

Homemade Michigan Wolverines Onesie Cake

Homemade Michigan Wolverines Onesie Cake

This Michigan Wolverines Onesie Cake was my first time in carving a cake and I am still learning how to use fondant. My friends' for whom the baby shower was, both graduated from University of Michigan. I wanted to make a cake that reminded them of their university and hence made a onesie cake. I had seen a onesie in the Michigan store online and thought of transforming that image to a cake.

Homemade Baby Booties Cake

I made these baby booties cakes for a friend's baby shower. I used 2 cupcakes. The first one I cut in curve to fit into the second one.

Covered it all with buttercream icing tinted yellow. Also cut a hole in the second cupcake to give the shoe shape.
