Homemade Barbie Dress Cake

Homemade Barbie Dress Cake

I had one of these doll cakes as a little girl on my birthday. So my niece was turning 15 and I decided to make her a Barbie dress cake. First I purchased a Barbie doll. Next I gave her hair a beautiful updo. Then I added edible pearls to her tiara. Then I created a bustier of edible pearls.

I also made her all her accessories of edible pearls. I made four eight inch round cakes (2 boxes). When cakes cooled I stacked then cut a circle in the middle and used butter cream frosting between each layer. I wrapped the bottom of the doll in plastic wrap. Then I inserted doll in the hole. I carved my cakes until they began to look like a big dress! Did a crumb coat of butter cream and placed in fridge for one hour.

Then I colored my butter cream a beautiful pink and piped using star tips #16 #18. I also set a side a little white butter cream for the bottom of her dress. I put her back in the fridge overnight.

She turned out beautiful. My niece cried! She did not want to cut her. Lol, We took plenty of pictures. I got so many requests. Next week I'm doing a bridal shower doll cake. Check out my beautiful princess and her pearl accessories!

Look at you Jenny! This is really lovely. I didn't know you were out there baking like this - are you catering? This is really great, detailed work.

One of these days I'll dig up the pic I have of your cake from back in the day.

Homemade Barbie Cake Idea

I started this Barbie Cake Idea with a bundt pan and a flower shaped cake pan. I stacked them together and then carved the shape of a skirt. I covered it with the fondant and then worked on it for about 3 weeks keeping it in the fridge until I was finished decorating it. I used actual ribbon for the stripes and lace to cover the bottom so it wasn't all edible. My favorite part was the idea to have the Barbie hold a little cake that had the candles on it. It was so adorable. I just bought a little paper mache box and filled it with cake and covered that with the fondant as well.

Of course I wouldn't serve a 3 week old cake with inedible things on it so I made the second cake the night before and made it look like a present. It was just a square chocolate cake covered with white fondant and then I stenciled the hot pink fleur de lis on the outside and then placed a real bow on top. Just for fun I decorated the purse looking box with Happy Birthday Lana and a mirror and crown inside.

Homemade Barbie Dress Cake

My daughter, Ella, wanted a Barbie Dress Cake for her 5th birthday so I went online to get ideas and stumbled on this site. I got some very good ideas and started planning. My friend and I made it together using two 8" cake pans and one cake made in a Pyrex bowl. Luckily I made cupcakes as something extra because when we put it together it wasn't tall enough, so we cut some of the cupcakes in half to make an extra layer.

Unfortunately she was still too tall so we did end up taking her legs off, but it worked out. We used homemade frosting and star tips, I'm not sure which ones. The whole bodice and her necklace is made out of icing also. It turned out pretty good, we got lots of compliments and Ella loved it.

This Homemade Barbie Doll Birthday Cake Idea is my first time to make a Barbie Doll Cake. I always only make cakes in square and round shapes. A birthday present to our friend who luckily celebrate her 50 year old birthday.

I made one recipe of chocolate cake and cooked in doll tin pan from Wilton. I prepared a butter cream Icing (Wilton's Recipe). I colored the 2 cups of icing with yellow color. Starting to ice the cake using the spatula, after that simply pushed the doll into the cake to become a skirt of the doll and decorated it.

I was very happy when I finished my Barbie doll cake as well as my husband who always admired all my cakes. Also my friend is very thankful to me.
