This Homemade Princess Barbie Doll Cake was made for a 4 year old girl named Nikki. I used strawberry and chocolate moist cake with cream cheese filling and butter cream frosting. I placed a hole in the center of three layers of 6” cake and cut the top in dome shape to resemble the skirt. Crumb coated the cake with butter cream frosting and let it set at the refrigerator for 10 minutes.
Once set, I coated a second layer of the butter cream frosting and chilled the cake again for another 10 minutes. Once set, I wrapped half of the doll from the waist down in saran wrap to protect both the doll and the cake and inserted it to the hole. I cut three inches of white fondant and made ruffled fabric for the front part of the skirt and immediately draped pink marshmallow fondant on the cake making sure that it covers all the cake up to the waistline of the doll to make it look like a skirt. The upper body was covered with a tube blouse accented with white band.
To hide the imperfections on the waist where the fondants meet, I wrapped a small belt of fondant around the waist and made a long ribbon as accent. The finished piece was then placed on top of a 9” round cake covered with white fondant. Gumpaste was used to create the letters for the name and for the tablet greeting.
I made this gorgeous African Princess birthday cake for an friend's pretty daughter on her 5th birthday! The girl is a new kid in the same Kindergarten as my 5 year old daughter, she has always admired the cakes I make for my daughter and other kids in the Kindergarten. So she told her mum that she wanted me to do her birthday cake.
I used the Wilton Doll Cake pan for the top half of the cake and the bottom part was another 24 cm/10" chocolate cake sandwiched with chocolate ganache. The cake was iced in my home-made lime butter cream icing. I decorated it with different size royal icing Drop flowers and and used a Carnation at the waist as a belt hook.
The girl loved her cake and was “really proud to have such a pretty cake” her mother later reported to me.
I am happy to say that this Doll Cake was one of my three cakes that was featured on iReport for CNN, here is the link: http://www.facebook.com/ext/share.php?sid=65470517899&h=Cuvqo&u=DbMV5 I sent in a story about what I am doing to survive this slow economic times and before you know it, three of my cakes appeared on the show. I was really proud and happy. Thanks for reading and enjoy!
I made this cake for my niece's 4th birthday party. She absolutely loves the movies "Tangled", she likes to think she's Rapunzel because her hair is really long too. This was my first time making a doll cake and the first time using fondant. I made marshmallow fondant because it was easier to make. I came out a lot better than I could have imagined. She was so excited.
