Barbie Cake

This was my first ever cake thanks to this site.

Just let me say that this is way easier than I thought it would be and I am officially, in the eyes of my daughter “the best mum in the whole wide world”.

I used a wilton cake pan, 8 inch round cake, store bought gel icing tubes, and half a truck of butter and sugar.

The only specialist equipment I bought was a cake base, one star nozzle, some colouring powder (lavender and rose pink) and 7 premade flowers that Lizzie chose. I dont even have a spatula!

We staggered the icing over 2 days as its hot here in Australia in December. We just put her back in the fridge to let her sit and set. And Id make up the next batch of icing. Some toothpicks and gladwrap kept her looking good in the fridge.

I also chose a ballerina barbie which had a torso design which made this much less fiddly and gave me a colour scheme to copy. In hindsight I’d make 2 round cakes as Barbie had to have her legs pulled off – but shes feeling much better now….

Lizzie wanted sparklers and candles and flowers ( she was very specific about this…what have I created??)

We made it together and had a great time.

Give it a go. Its way easier than it looks!

Deb and Lizzie
