I made this homemade barnyard cake for my daughter's second birthday, she loves cows so I thought this would be perfect.
The barn is made out of 2 chocolate cakes baked in a round pan. I then trimmed the cake to make a square and used the extra for the roof. I covered the barn with homemade buttercream frosting and used fondant for the roof. The silo is made of rice krispie treats covered with fondant.
All the animals are made from rice krispie treats covered with fondant. So is the tree, the hay bale, and the pumpkins. The apples and flowers are made from just fondant.
Under the cows is white cake covered with homemade buttercream frosting. This homemade barnyard cake was a big hit with everyone that came to the party.
I made this homemade barnyard birthday cake for my son's first birthday. I used a basic vanilla cake covered in homemade buttercream icing. The barn is made using the stand up house mold, the roof is Chex mix. The cow, pig, and ducks are make out of homemade marshmallow fondant. The pond is just a small bowl of blue jello (make sure you put something like cling wrap in between the ducks and jello, otherwise your ducks will melt in the pond!).
The trees I just free handed them out of colored chocolate and added a small pretzel stick to the trunk so I could stand them up on the cake. The homemade barnyard birthday cake actually wasn't too difficult to make and everyone loved it.
For my son Quinn's first birthday, I made a homemade barnyard birthday cake. I used three different circle pans, and because I don't like the taste of fondant I opted for Wilton's buttercream recipe and then made all the animals out of fondant. It was my first time using fondant, and I loved it!
I found pictures of some of the animals online and the chick and horse I made by playing around with it. The fences are made out of candy melts in dark brown. I recommend buying the gum paste tool kit to help make the animals since the more detail you add the better! I made the animals a few days before and stored them in the fridge.
My daughter wanted another pet pig for her birthday and talked about wanting a mini farm. She lives out in the country and has a vineyard. For her birthday cake I made her, " Her mini Farm". I had seen a cake that was somewhat like it and then decided to make my own Barnyard Birthday Cake.
I had a great time molding the chickens, chicks and pigs and making the sheep. I changed things to my likings as I went along.
