Homemade Baseball And Bat Cake

Homemade Baseball And Bat Cake

For the baseball cake, I took a ball shaped pan and filled approximately halfway with butter recipe cake batter. Once it was done, I cut across it to make it completely flat on the bottom and turned it upside down on wax paper. I let it cool overnight in the fridge. To ice it, I made homemade buttercream icing and coated it lightly before using a star tip to fill it in. I used a tube of red icing to draw the laces on the ball.

For the bat cake, I got my husband to make me a template out of posterboard to cut the cake out. I again used the butter recipe cake batter mix and poured it into an 11x15 pan. Once it was done and cooled, I turned it upside down on wax paper and again let it cool in the fridge overnight. I took the template my husband made and with a good sharpened knife cut along the edges (I had to cut the template so that there were 2 separate ends, creating 2 parts to the cake, then had to piece the cake back together).

I made homemade peanut butter icing (the fam's favorite) to give the bat a wooden look.

Baseball and Bat Cake

Baseball and Bat Cake

We did a baseball theme for my four year old's birthday party this year, so naturally we needed a baseball and bat cake. I used a 2 qt Pyrex dish for the baseball and bat I made from a combination of a sheet cake and 4 mini loaf pans. I used a double recipe of the chocolate cake one that's on the back of Hershey cocoa box (perfectly chocolate chocolate cake) and a quadruple recipe of buttercream frosting. (That cake recipe is great and easy and holds up well with "construction")

To make the bat, I just carved the shape out of the sheet pan (it was 2 pieces) and then layered icing on top and then lined the top with the mini loaves to give it the rounded top. I used the gel coloring to color all of the items (to get the grainy brown on the bat - I just put a toothpick in the icing and drug it across the top of the lighter brown and then smoothed it down with a spatula. The lettering was just free handed with black-colored icing.

We had over 40 people at the party and there were plenty of leftovers to send home with everyone!

Homemade Baseball And Bat Birthday Cake

Homemade Baseball And Bat Birthday Cake

My friend wanted a baseball cake for her son on his birthday. I've done this cake several times before but I usually decorate it as a basketball. But this time I decided to make a bat to go along with it, actually that was my hubby's idea, Thanks Lance!)

Anyhow, the ball and bat are both made with rice crispy treats just formed into the desired shapes, very easy! After rice crispies are formed and hardened ,I decorated them with buttercream icing. White for the ball and chocolate icing for the bat.

The cake is just a triple chocolate cake with white buttercream icing. I piped blue dots around the cake so it didn't look so plain. I used a Happy Birthday sign on the cake so I didn't have to write a lot on the cake since I took up so much room with the bat and ball. But I did write my friend's son's name in red just to add a little more color. And I also used red on the baseball to give more detail to the ball.

This Baseball And Bat Birthday Cake was very easy to make and it turned out really cute!!
