BBQ Burger Cake

This was for my husbands birthday and we happened to be having a BBQ with friends and family. It was relatively easy to prepare, the longest part being baking the cakes and waiting for them to cool.

I have never used fondant, so I was a little concerned about that, but it proved to be very simple(except for the coloring of tomatoes, we didn’t buy the gloves and it looked like I had slaughtered a pig!). We rolled the fondant out and for the lettuce, used the green food coloring paste by Wilton. I cut football shapes out of the piece we had rolled and used the blunt end of a steak knife to form the “leaf lettuce”. For the tomatoes, I used a coffee cup and then cut out triangles. The pickles are the top of a sippy cup from my daughter and the onions are a coffee cup and then the sippy cup on the inside to make the smaller rings.

I am one of those people that will use every resource without spending a ton of money!

The cakes, I did 2 Vanilla-the buns

The middle one is chocolate, for the “meat” part, to make it look more realistic, I spread chocolate frosting around the edges and then rolled it in chocolate sprinkles, that gave it the texture I was looking for.

The icing for the buns is chocolate frosting mixed with white. Be careful not to put too much chocolate frosting in.

The top part for the sesame seeds, I found toffee crunch bits, and they worked perfect!
