Beautiful Hootabelle Cake from Giggle and Hoot

This beautiful Hootabelle cake from Giggle and Hoot is my first fully carved cake! It is vanilla butter cake filled with white chocolate gananche and then covered in fondant. For the body I used a 15cm tin and the head was made using 4 – 20cm cakes, carved into the round shape I needed. I then covered the head and body in ganache and left them to set. I tinted the fondant with Americolor violet. From memory I think I used around 700g to cover the entire cake. Before placing the head on the body, I inserted 3 support dowels, then placed a small cake board.

The wings were made in advance out of a mixture of gum paste  fondant and tylose. Each wing had 2 toothpicks inserted to help them attach to the body. I used an edible marker to make the stitching.

Originally this cake was to have been filled with butter cream  but the weather was working against me (40C) so had to change my plan. Was nervous the cake wouldn’t hold up so I ended up putting another support through into the head.
