I made this Ben 10 Birthday cake for my nephew who is a Ben 10 Fan. I started with a piece of paper the size of my pan ( a Wilton sheet cake) and I drew my Ben 10 character. I then baked my cake using three cake mixes to make a thicker cake. I let the cake cool and transferred the cake on to my cake board covered in foil. I then laid my cut out drawing on the cake and cut the shape out. I allowed the kids to snack on the excess pieces while I iced the cake.
I used chocolate icing for his hair and then used white buttercream for the remaining portions. I cut out of my drawing his face and then just iced the hair around the paper. Then I peeled away the paper and frosted the face. I used black decorator icing bought at the store to detail (the shirt stripes, and the face detail). I used a toothpick to draw his eyes and face detail and then followed up with the black icing. That way if I did not like my first attempt I could simply smooth it away and try again. His green eyes was a mix of green gel icing, a dab of chocolate icing and some white. I used the gel icing for the whites of his eyes.
It really turned out well. At the birthday party I had three people hire me for their kids cakes!
This Ben10 Birthday Cake Design was the first time I had used royal icing/marzipan and I think I did OK. I really enjoyed the creativity but it was my first time and hard!
The cake is a mud cake from the internet - search white chocolate mudcake and should be the first that comes up. I did 1 of white choco and normal coco for each layer (so 4 in total).
I would use white royal icing again next time as it keeps the colours true. I used Wilton gel colours and find the colours very clear. I did the top first and premade the additions a week before so they were dry. The bottom marble colours are small balls of yellow and green rolled out then kneaded together to create the marble effect.
He loves it, I love it but have a lot to learn. Next time I would cut the cakes to be even so easier to cover and I need far more marzipan!
I made this sitting up 3D Ben 10 Cake for my great nephew who is a huge Ben 10 fan. I used a large basin cake for the body, a small basin cake for the head, the arms are fondant and the legs are Swiss roll cake, very difficult to transport so I inserted a plastic pipe through the body and then attached his head.
I made this Ben10 Birthday Cake Design for a friend's little boy, he is a Ben 10 fanatic. It's a normal chocolate sponge, with butter icing flavoured with Milo. I traced the picture onto the cake and filled in all the detail with different colours. I was not very happy with the outcome but the children loved it, especially the birthday boy.
