Blue’s Clues Cake

I made this Blues Clues cake for my son’s third birthday. It was my first attempt at fondant. I looked here at Coolest Birthday Cakes to get some inspiration.

I started with a chocolate cake covered in butter cream icing. I covered the entire cake in white rolled fondant. For Blue’s face I just printed off a pattern from Nickjr.com.

Same way with the paw prints. I took the paper patterns and cut them out, then layered them on top of the blue tinted rolled fondant. Then cut the fondant with a knife.

For the letters I used the letter and number cutouts from Wiltons. Around the sides of the cake I added a bunch of “3”‘s and two paw prints. The letter cutouts were difficult to use. A lot of the letters stuck inside the cutouts and then got deformed when trying to get them out. I was told to try greasing them with shortening first.

The cake, however, still turned out cute. Everyone loved it including my little birthday boy, Beau.
