One View, Characters go all the way around...
My Aunt wanted me to make my cousin a birthday cake for her 2nd birthday. She wanted to have a 'Blues Clues' theme. I searched EVERYWHERE for anything relating to blues clues, but I could not find a thing.
So, I figured that I always wanted to play with fondant and I tried it. At first I bought the Wilton premade brand, for the characters. I cut them out by hand, and painted them with a food coloring/vodka mix.
Soon a one tiered cake, then came to a three tiered cake...I wanted to cover the entire cake in fondant, so I decided to make the fondant myself - It would have been a small fortune to buy pre-made. The fondant gave my arms a good workout, and it was cheaper to make - not to mention the taste was a lot better! I tinted it to the colors I wanted.
The insides of the cake?
Bottom layer I used DH yellow cake mix, and for the filling I used 1 box of vanilla pudding (prepared) mixed with a block a room temp cream cheese and a can of drained crushed pineapple. I then added in fresh blueberries.
The 2nd tier was a box of DH Choc cake mix, filled with cook n serve choc pudding and strawberries.
Then the top layer was a box of DH Yellow filled with lemon curd.
I am very happy with the results. It was my first time making a tiered cake and a first for playing with the fondant. I will def do something like this again!
