I made this Butterfly birthday cake for my granddaughter's 2nd birthday. I used candy melts to make the butterflies, first I drew a few butterflies on paper the size I needed, then I covered them with wax paper and used squeeze bottles to "draw" with the melts.
I kept the wings separate from the bodies so they stood up on the cake. It was the first time I had ever used the candy melts and they were pretty easy (just make sure you have a hat pin or other large pin to keep the openings clear).
The flowers are made of fondant in a press then put together using water mixed with a little gum paste. The small butterflies were made using a silicone mold, and fondant. I am new to cake decorating but have found that just being a little crafty and having the courage to just do it works wonders. I got the idea to do this cake from the plates and napkins for the party.
This Homemade Butterfly Birthday Cake was a chocolate mud cake with chocolate buttercream - bottom tier, and the top was vanilla sponge with pink buttercream. I crumb coated both tiers with buttercream and covered them with white fondant. Butterflies and flowers were made from flower modeling paste and attached to the cake with royal icing.
Everybody at the party were saying that looks like a wedding cake and I was so proud. My friend's little girl was over the moon and I tell you what,it tasted really awesome.
This butterfly birthday cake was a first try for me. My daughter turned seven and was really into the Camp Rock theme. She had asked for two cakes a Camp Rock and a butterfly. I made the butterfly in sponge. I used ready mix sponge cake recipe. The butterfly I just used my imagination.
It turned out pretty good my daughter was highly impressed.
This Butterfly Birthday Cake is a double sponge cream and jam filled with green fondant on top. I used about 3kg of green. The butterfly was a round sponge cake cut then shaped for a butterfly with pink fondant covering it. I purchased ready made garden sets of butterflies, flowers, toadstools, bees, etc. from eBay.
