Homemade Butterfly Birthday Cake

Homemade Butterfly Birthday Cake

I made this Butterfly Birthday Cake for my mother-in-law’s 60th birthday. I made the chocolate cake using a cake mix. I added nuts and fruits to the cake batter to make a rich Chocolate cake. This was the first time I tried icing. I applied chocolate frosting to the round cake that I baked, cut it and assembled it like a butterfly.

I added yellow food coloring to the icing (I bought whipped cream powder and used it). I bordered the butterfly cake with yellow icing using a star tip and placed silver balls on them. I grated the almonds and added green food coloring to the flakes. I sprinkled the flakes inside the borders and arranged pink Cadbury gems to make the wings attractive. I placed a chocolate roll at the center. I made the antenna with two wires (the wires are not edible) and tucked them into the roll.

My mother-in-law loved it and did not feel like cutting it.

Homemade Butterfly Birthday Cake

I made this Butterfly Birthday Cake for my daughter's first birthday. I used 2 different flavors for the cake, lemon and cherry cake. I poured the lemon in first in two small round cake pans dividing the lemon batter evenly between the two pans and then I poured the cherry batter on top and marbled it using a knife. The remaining batter I used to make 3 jumbo cupcakes ( for the butterfly body).

I then cut the round cakes in half to make two wings on each side, laid it out on a large tray and started to decorate. I used store bought icing and homemade icing to get the right consistency, use icing gel and sprinkles as well and 2 pipe cleaners for the antenna. This cake was really easy to make, really yummy and took no time at all.

Can't wait for my son's birthday to come cause I'm taking on a Spongebob Squarepants cake!

Homemade Butterfly Birthday Cake

This homemade butterfly birthday cake was for friends granddauthers 4th birthday. Two tiered white cake butter cream icing tinted yellow. 12 in round & 9in round. I made butterflies form fondant. I colored cut out with cookie cutters piped middles and dots on butterflies with royal icing (let dry a few days).

Flowers were also fondant cut with cookie cutters also air cried. Butterflies were placed on scored cardboard to create a slightly bent up wing so that they weren't flat.

Antenna were very difficult, some broke off but cake was successful and very cute. I just loved it myself. I made the topper with a butterfly two flower and a number four made from fondant and dried. I placed them on a wooden dowel secured with royal icing, let dry, then placed on top of cake for topper.

Homemade Butterfly Birthday Cake

I got the design of the Homemade Butterfly Birthday Cake from the Betty Crocker website. I made a chocolate mud round cake and cut it into four pieces. I then made the head from a Pyrex glass bow and the body from two mini loaf tins.

The icing was butter cream which I coloured all different colors. I then made vanilla and chocolate cup cakes and made dragon flies, caterpillars and flowers from fondant icing which I coloured with food dye.
