This Homemade Buzz Lightyear Rocket Birthday Cake was made for a Buzz Lightyear themed birthday for one of my friend's son. The cupcakes are homemade chocolate and vanilla. They were decorated with homemade buttercream frosting colored with Wilton food color. The vanilla cupcakes are decorated to resemble little alien spaceships using the purple icing for the body, blue icing for the window and yellow icing for the lights.
I decorated the chocolate cupcakes with the faces of the aliens. The mouth is buttercream and the eyes are made with fondant.
The actual Rocket is a five layer cake (made with 6in round pan) with buttercream between each layer and two wooden dowels stuck vertically to hold all the layers together and cut with serrated cake knife to make the shape at the top. I covered the cake with white fondant (store bought). I printed out a picture of Buzz Lightyear's rocket box to use as a visual guide for the details on the cake which I made by hand with different frosting tips.

Woody and Buzz are my kids’ favorite characters, so of course we had to have a homemade Toy Story cake! This one was really fun and relatively easy with some help from two of my closest friends.
The bottom layer is “Woody’s shirt”, the middle layer is “Andy’s room” and the top is “Buzz” (outer space). Everything is home-made except the characters, which are small figurines which I purchased from the online Disney Store and the banner (made of paper).
For those fondant lovers out there (like me) I found an amazing alternative to the store bought variety! I used a recipe for marshmallow fondant which I found online. It was super easy to make, and easier to roll out and work with than the commercial / store brand. Plus it didn’t dry out quite as fast, and tastes WAY better!
Overall I thought it turned out really great, and I’m so proud of it! My son absolutely LOVED his homemade Toy Story Buzz Lightyear birthday cake!!!

My son loves Buzz and wanted a cake that looks like Buzz Lightyear's Spaceship Cake. I used ideas from this website and others as well! The cake is two vanilla layer cakes with buttercream icing and then covered in marshmallow fondant (there are a number of easy and good recipes for this online).
I had never used fondant before but it was fairly easy. The letters were just candy ones I picked up in the grocery store baking aisle. I piped on some of the extra decorations (stripes, stars) with colored buttercream. The small wings are made out of graham crackers I pushed into the cake (covered with the fondant).
I got a bunch of Toy Story figures on eBay and after giving them to my son the morning of his birthday, stole a few to decorate the cake!

Homemade Buzz Lightyear Leader of Star Command Idea
With the new Toy Story movie, my son wanted a Buzz Lightyear cake. I started out by finding a coloring page with an appropriate picture for the Buzz Lightyear Leader of Star Command Idea I wanted.
I cut the figure out, and cut fondant to shape. I then freehanded all the lines with black edible markers and colored in the areas with fondant. I then cut the letters out with cookie cutters. I then drew in Buzz's laser, as Buzz was blasting away the "4", revealing a 5, for my son's 5th birthday.
I made this Buzz Lightyear Birthday Cake for a little boy's 2nd birthday. The bottom is 1/2 sheet cake with homemade french vanilla cake and the top is my recipe for a moist chocolate cake (grandmom's recipe from Germany).
I make a delicious buttercream icing which is homemade. The stars are Wilton's new sugar sheets which I tried for the first time. I have been baking cakes for 36 yrs, the first cake I made was for my son's first birthday which was Mickey Mouse and I have been making cakes since.
