Homemade Cat Birthday Cake

Homemade Cat Birthday Cake

I made this 2 tier Cat Birthday Cake for my niece's 7th birthday. I got the cat from the Dollar store, it was a glass cat. I used suckers to make the yarn balls. Once I stuck the suckers where I wanted them I used my writing tip to make the form of a yarn ball. I streamed the two different colors of yarn balls around the tops of each layer of cake and over the cat.

I made her name out of strawberry chocolate. I used chocolate pick molds and stuck them in the freezer for a bit so they would be hard enough to poke through the cake without breaking. Then I poked a hole with a toothpick where I wanted to place the letters.

The cupcakes had store bought cats on them. The yarn balls on the cupcakes were made from gumballs. Everyone Loved it.

Homemade Cat Cake Design

I made a lemon cake with lemon curd buttercream covered in white sugarpaste. I covered the bottom board in white sugarpaste also. To clean up the edges between the cake and the covered board - piped back icing in pearls.

Then made the cat and constructed on top of the cake securing with royal icing. Black paw prints used up the last of the black sugarpaste. Bought four yellow and one white sugarmice (from old fashioned sweet shop) and dusted one brown and four grey - secured onto cake with royal icing.

The Cat Cake Design was commissioned for a leaving do of a teacher from school - the brown mouse is her escaping whilst the four grey ones are her colleagues left behind!!

Sugar Mice & Whiskers
by: Anonymous

Hi,

The cake is amazing! I'm looking to replicated with more tiers. Although I'm struggling with the whiskers for the cat and what you used to dust the mice?

Gorgeous and beautifully done!

This cake is a bit like one I made - great minds think alike! I was so surprised to see yours and have shared my cake on here too.
The sugar mice are a great idea.

Dusting powder

She probably used edible dust/dusting powder colour. Sugarcraft and Squires make it. It comes in all sorts of colours including metallics.

Love this

I have to do the same thing for a teacher's "big" birthday. She is cat mad and that is exactly what we had in mind. Thank you.

Homemade Cat Birthday Cake

Homemade Cat Birthday Cake

This Cat Birthday Cake was for a little girl that loves kitties. I used a large Wilton oval cake pan for the body and a small oval for the head. I trimmed a little off the sides of the small oval cake to make the ears of the cat attaching with icing. I also made a small round cake and cut out and attached a tail.

The cake was iced with a Wilton grass tip. I made a collar for the cat with fondant rolled into ball. The nose, mouth and eyes were fondant as well. Very simple, but cute cake.

Homemade Cat Face Cake

Homemade Cat Face Cake

This Cat Face Cake was made using 2 round layer cake pans. The frosting was all buttercream, piped with a star tip. The ears were fondant, and the eyes and nose were Junior Mints.

I used a hole tip for the whiskers and mouth. I made the nose/mouth 3D by forming the base out of fondant.

I used the same star tip to do the border. The tongue was bubblegum.

I made this cake for a little girl who turned two. I got the picture from the internet and enlarged it to fit on the cake, using two shades of pink I iced the picture onto the cake.
