Homemade Caterpillar Cake

I got the idea from one of the Baby Einstein cake pics on this site. However, I decided to go with pastel colors and do a garden themed party for my daughter's first birthday. All of the sections were baked in the Wilton sports ball pan and held together by dowel rods. The feet are cupcakes laying on their side. If I make this cake again I will probably use Styrofoam for the head because the chest started to collapse from the weight. The cake was HUGE......about 3 feet long!

I made this cake for my daughter's 1st birthday party. The theme was "a garden party" so the caterpillar was a perfect fit.

The cakes were vanilla, chocolate and strawberry (box mix) and store bought vanilla frosting mixed in with Wilton Gel coloring. It was huge hit!

I did a round 10" vanilla sponge cake, covered with fondant icing, the caterpillar was made with small balls of fondant(sugar paste)colored with Wilton food colors, then the green grass with little cut out flowers all around, and for the name just with letters cutters.
