This Christmas tree cake was a lot of fun to make. My mom's birthday is 5 days before Christmas so she often gets a holiday cake from me but she doesn't mind since she loves Christmas.
The cake is covered and piped in butter cream. The tree is made of rice crispy treats and decorated in royal icing and candy. I had trouble with my royal icing being too soft so the tree didn't turn out exactly how I wanted it but everyone loved it.
Upon some prodding, my father shared that for his December birthday his mother always made him a Christmas tree cake. For my version I made a chocolate cake with white chocolate and almond frosting colored green.
I also dyed 2 cups of coconut flake green for the pine branch effect. The rest of the tree is decorated with M&Ms and other various candies.
The presents at the bottom of the tree are brownies frosted and decorated with left-over frosting, dyes, sprinkles, etc.
I baked two 9x13 rectangle confetti mix cakes for this Christmas tree cake. I carved the tree, trunk and presents. I used Wilton's icing coloring and tips.
I use the supermarket brand vanilla icing. I used M&M's and gummy bears for decorations. I asked the local baker for a cake box. I put a TO:/FROM: tag on the cover and this was our present to very good friends. They enjoyed!
