These are ordinary frosting covered vanilla cupcakes with details done in Chocolate, various lollies (candy) and fondant. Lollies used include, red licorice (which you can roll flat and cut shapes out of) white chocolate drops, mini M & M's, marshmallows, and sprinkles of various types. You can roll out all sorts of lollies and cut shapes out of them. Lollies like licorice, fruit chews, some jelly lollies, caramels can be used instead of fondant, and give you a great range of tastes and colours.
The Lions smile is piped using black gel but could easily be chocolate frosting.
The elephant ears are chocolate piped onto waxed paper with lumps of foil underneath to give them more shape as they cool. His trunk is tight zigzags. Chocolate is easier to handle if you let it cool off a bit, then it doesn't run so quickly and you have more control over it.
Adding the little highlight on the M & M eyes gives more life to your creation.
