Homemade Construction Truck Birthday Cake

Homemade Construction Truck Birthday Cake

This Construction Truck Birthday Cake is a simple cake to make. I baked two 13 x 9 inch cakes and leveled them with a cake leveler. I used canned chocolate frosting for the filling between the two cakes. I crumb iced the entire cake with canned white frosting and then dyed more white frosting with brown, green, and orange Wilton Cake Icing Dye.

I frosted the entire cake with the brown icing and then lined the top edge with chocolate rocks that you can find at specialty candy stores. (The kids really loved the chocolate rocks). I used truck toys that my kids already had but they can be purchased at toy stores. I bordered the cake with green frosting using the “grass” decorating tip (Wilton #233).

I crushed some graham crackers and put them on the cake as the dirt and then placed the trucks. I used the orange frosting to write the message. I used the extra chocolate rocks in the back of the dump truck and it was a good thing I did because all of the kids at the party wanted the rocks on their piece of cake.

Coolest Bulldozer Cake 44

Homemade Bulldozer Cake

Homemade Bulldozer Cake

My son was approaching his 21st and said he would like a bulldozer cake. He works for Caterpillar as a heavy machinery mechanic, so I knew he would pay attention to detail.

My daughter and I spent the morning with all sorts of machinery books, rectangular sponges, yellow icing and licorice covering our dining table.

What also complicated the issue was that at the last moment, we found another mechanic was sharing a 21st, so we made him a roller.

When we brought the cakes out the boys were shocked. My son said that he was joking and never thought I would make him one.

The two birthday boys were so tickled with the cakes, they wouldn't cut them. They were finally cut about a week later, and I don't think they were that good by then.

But at least I know they were appreciated.

Great Cake!

My wife showed this to me as we were getting ready to celebrate my son's 1st birthday. Since I worked as a heavy equipment operator for a number of years she thought that I would get a kick out of this. She was right. Your cake is one of the neatest cakes that I have ever seen. I am very impressed with your abilities as a decorator, and by the love that you showed for your 21 yr old. I can understand why he didn't want to cut it up. Keep up the great work.

Coolest Bull Dozer Cake 28

John's Dozer Cake

John's Dozer Cake

I made this bulldozer cake for my son's 2nd birthday party. It was a hit. The cake consisted of 2 9x13 cakes stacked on top of each other. The blade and top portion of the cake is 2 loaf pans divided and shaped.

The roll cab and blade lifters are made with pipe cleaners. The tracts were made from 1 8inch round cake and shaped to look like tracts. Then I iced it with an 18 star tip and outlined it in black using a 18 star tip. The pipe is a small wooden rod covered with icing. The dirt is crushed Oreo cookies.

The icing recipe I used was the Wilton buttercream. I wrote happy birthday on the dozer blade.

Coolest Crane Truck Birthday Cake Design 60

Homemade Crane Truck Birthday Cake Design

Homemade Crane Truck Birthday Cake Design

I made this Crane Truck Birthday Cake Design for my son's 3rd birthday. He loves mighty machines and of course picked one of the more complicated ones, a crane truck! I baked 2 9x13 cakes and then cut and stacked them into the shape of the truck. I made marshmallow fondant to cover and decorate with.

The crane was simply a plastic cake dowel covered in MMF and stuck into the cake (at the last moment of course because it was quite heavy). I used dental floss to attach the crane hook.

All my hard work paid off. My son loved the cake!

Crane Cake

Crane Cake

I made this crane cake for my son's first birthday. I got the idea from a Wilton cake year book.

The crane is made out of the 3D train pan and we just cut off a few things to make it look like a crane. We used a plastic dowel and wrapped it in black fondant the hook is also black fondant.

The tires are donuts from Tim Hortons. Everyone loved this cake it was a huge hit!
