Cool Aspen Tree Western Wedding Cake

A young girl who just got engaged asked me to make an aspen tree wedding cake for her. At first I wasn’t quite sure how I would pull it off. Fortunately, I just so happen to have some aspen trees right in my back yard. So, I began by taking some pictures of them.

I double-stacked 3-inch cakes using cake plates and pillars for support. I covered each layer in fondant. Then, I took a knife and cut slits all over. Next, I went back thru with a mixture of black and brown and lightly colored the cuts.

As for the knots, I molded them with modeling chocolate. placed them on the cake, and colored them in. Then, I made the fall leaves. I actually used a fake flower from the craft store for the willow.

I made the topper myself. I couldn’t find any cute wedding toppers for less than 50 bucks. I was given a budget of $150, so I found some horse shoes online, got a small block of wood and glued them down, and then just found stuff laying around the house, added it, and wammo… I had a beautiful wedding cake topper.

She loved it!!
