Coolest 1st Birthday Homemade Castle Cake

I made this 1st Birthday Castle Cake for my daughter’s 1st birthday. It was my first attempt at a birthday cake.

The main cake was a 8 inch sponge filled with buttercream and raspberry jam. I covered it with buttercream and then with pink fondant. For the towers I used two shop bought Swiss rolls, also covered with pink fondant. I kept one its full length and halved the other to make the two smaller towers.

I covered three ice cream cones with lilac coloured fondant and secured them to the top of each Swiss roll with buttercream. The Swiss rolls were then stood up on the cake with more buttercream and secured with skewers.

I placed mini marshmallows all around the cake and towers to make the turrets and cut fondant windows and doors. I then coloured some buttercream pink and piped a border around the bottom of the cake, and piped my daughter’s name along the top.

To finish it off I placed some sugar flowers I bought from a supermarket on various parts of the cake.
