This is a 3rd birthday Strawberry Shortcake Cake that I just completed for my nieces. Her mom said she likes the “new” style Strawberry Shortcake so that is what I went for. Since I like to free hand my cakes, I print off a picture that I’d like to do, then make sure that I can sketch it on paper before attempting it with frosting.
When frosting I look back to my sketch for the lines then the colored picture for filling it in. For her hair, which is a more unusual color I mixed some burgundy with red and got what I thought was perfect. I decided to outline in brown instead of black for a softer look. I used hot pink for her dress, golden for her skin, forest green for the green trim and filled in areas.
I love decorating cakes and since my son’s are teenagers and no longer have parties, I love that my brother and sister in law let me make cakes for their little ones. I hope you like it as much as I do!
