Homemade 97th Birthday Cake Idea
After reviewing cakes on here, I mixed and matched ideas for my friend's fathers' 97th Birthday Cake Idea. I made 2 cake mixes in a 11x15x2 pan and after it cooled I cut it in half and filled the middle with Wilton white icing. It took about three recipes of it.
With green icing, I painted sugar cones that I had cut in various sizes for trees. I dipped q-tips in melted canned chocolate icing for cat-tails, I also used "grass" from artificial cat-tails and cut it and poked it in the cake as well.
My husband drew the boat for me. The fish are Swedish fish you buy in the store. I made chocolate turtles out of candy molds and realized I didn't put them on for the picture. I couldn't find my "grass" tip so I used a big tip and then used a fork for the grass. I think he was really pleased.
