Coolest Apple Cake

I made this apple cake for a teacher that I work with that was honored through our district as “Teacher of the Year”. I started with three eight inch round cakes (two chocolate and one vanilla) layered with chocolate ganache frosting with almonds.

Once the cakes were stacked, I carved out the shape of an apple including the little hole on top for the stem. I covered the cake with marshmallow fondant that I made and tinted green. I created the leaf out of a slightly darker green fondant.

The stem was made from a pretzel rod (my husband’s idea). Then, I cut out letters with small alphabet cutters from the same green fondant that I used for the leaf. I dusted the whole cake with edible shimmer powder applied with a small paint brush.

It was very fun to do, and not too difficult.
