Homemade Ariel Birthday Cake

This Ariel Birthday Cake was the first cake that I had ever attempted to make. It was a lot of fun. I used a bowl to bake the cake for the sand hill and cupcakes for the smaller hills. After icing the whole cake, I covered all with crumbled wafer cookies to give it the sand effect. I piped some blue frosting in front and around the larger sand hill for the water effect and placed multi-colored fish on the frosting.

Ariel was seated (secured with icing) on top of the hill and miniature figures were placed all around her. Ariel clothes was made out of fruit sticks and wrapped around her. Blue/green M&Ms were her fins.

My grand-daughter's party was at a pizza place. When I walked in with the cake, my grand-daughter's face lit up and people were asking me were I had bought the cake. I loved it.
