Homemade Ariel Birthday Cake

My daughter asked for The Little Mermaid as the theme for her 4th Birthday. I made this Ariel Birthday Cake using the classic batter bowl from the Pampered Chef. I baked it for as long as the instructions on the cake box specified.

After cooling for 2 hours I started decorating. I made the lower half of the cake a bluish color to represent the ocean. I then added some pinkinsh colored icing to make coral. The upper part of the cake was colored gray to represent a rock that Ariel was sitting on.

My daughter had an Ariel doll that I used to stick in the cake, however, her legs were too long so I had to the legs off which worked perfect. The only problem I ran into was that the longer the cake was sitting out, the softer the icing was getting and Ariel was starting to lean. I would definitely recommend using something to help prop her up so she doesn't lean or fall.
