Homemade Ariel The Little Mermaid Cake
I made this Ariel The Little Mermaid cake for my daughter's fourth birthday party.
I started by drawing the cake by getting a picture of the internet. I used a piece of paper the size of the cake (a Wilton sheet cake pan).
I filled the cake pan 2/3 full which is two cake mixes. After the cake cooled I cut my drawing out and after the cake had been transferred to the cake board I laid the pattern on the cake. I cut out my design and let the kids snack on the scrap pieces of cake.
I then cut the face of Ariel out and laid her on the cake where it should be. I iced the hair around the face with Wilton decorating icing mixed with red (no taste) food coloring gel. I had to use a whole jar to get this deep of a color.
After the hair was all iced I carefully removed the picture of her face out and iced this area with the decorator icing mixed with a drop of peach coloring. I then used a toothpick to draw my detail. If I made a mistake I just smoothed out my attempt and tried again. I then iced in the detail with a store bought black decorator tube of icing. I used the gel type of icing for the white and blue of her eyes and her red lips.
Everyone loved the cake and my daughter was convinced it was Ariel!
