Easy Green Homemade Army Tank Cake with Plastic Army Figure

I made this army tank cake for my son’s 9th Army birthday party. I actually came to this very site for ideas.

I always use box cakes. I used 2 boxes for this cake & two store bought tubs of frosting. To get that army green color I mixed dark green & black food coloring. The trick is to add the color a little at a time until you get the color you want.

It’s always best to make your cake a day ahead as it gives the cake time to harden a bit, making it easier to cut & frost.

I looked at many pictures of real tanks & gave my rectangular cake the shape I wanted from those pictures.

I used a plastic army guy on top of the cake as you can see in the photo & the canon part (sorry if that’s not the correct term) was one of my son’s plastic toys too.

I also crushed some graham crackers & put them around the sides to make it look like sand.
