Autobot Cake

Autobot Cake

I made this Autobot cake for my nephew's third birthday. I got the idea from a picture I saw of the Autobot insignia. I thought it would be relatively easy.

I used a large square Wilton pan - 12X12 I think. The cake itself is half chocolate and half white. I used two whole cake mixes. I poured them in the pan at the same time, side by side, and then baked it until both sides were done. I think the chocolate takes a little longer to bake.

I made and used butter cream frosting. Instead of making red and blue icing, I chose to use the Wilton spray colors to get the colors to fade to white. I iced the entire cake using the #22 star tips with my icing bags. The outline that looks like black is just canned chocolate frosting. I didn't really want to make black butter cream.

I did the design free hand so it's not quite symmetrical, but it was for family and for eating so no big deal! It was fun to make, but it probably took about five hours. I have three kids of my own so taking care of them (and a husband!) and making a cake for my nephew took a little more effort than I originally thought it would. It was worth it. He loved it!
