Cool Homemade 3D Baby Blocks Cake

I used 4 layers of 8×8 cakes to make each block (1 box mix of cake filled two 8×8 pans). I just trimmed off all four sides to make a nice flat edge and used buttercream icing.

I used candy melts to make the letters and characters. Just melted them in a ziploc bag in the microwave and added my food coloring. Then snipped the corner off and traced my pattern on the wax paper. Make sure to use skewers in the baby blocks cake so it doesn’t fall over.

  1. I plan on doing just this but with 3 blocks to spell out baby’s name. I don’t quite understand how you did the lettering without a mold…any chance you could explain more?? Thanks!!

  3. i think (as i have read on other cakes) you print out the letters (using a PC) and then lay wax paper over them, use royal icing, and copy the letter and then fill it in???? awesome cake! it’s my first time to this site and I’m loving it!
