Cool Homemade Happy Baby Cake

I made this baby cake for my stepdaughter’s baby shower. She knew she was having a boy, so I made the diaper blue. But you could easily make it pink for a girl, or yellow if you don’t know the sex of the baby.

I used two circle cake pans, one for the head one for the body. I made an extra one for the arms and feet. I drew the feet and arms on card stock, then cut them out.

I froze the cakes overnight then took them out one at a time to work with. I placed the feet and arm templates on top of the cake and using a sharp knife, cut around each. I then put them back in the freezer til I was ready for them. It makes it easier to ice them that way.

I started with the icing. I used 1 1/2 cans vanilla icing with about a TBS of chocolate icing. I mixed well to get the skin color I wanted. I used the rest of the white with some blue food color for the diaper.

I iced the head first, then 3/4 of the body. Next the diaper area. Then I iced each foot and placed them on the body. Arms next. The eyes and belly button are M&M’s. The cheeks are flattened, rounded star bursts. The smile and hair are chocolate icing in my icing gun.

It turned out great and everyone loved it!
