Homemade Baby Shower Cake
A good friend asked me to make her baby shower cake and I didn't know where to start. I decided to make this simple, but elegant cake and it was a big hit.
I used 3 different sized round pans and made 3 double layer cakes. Then I made marshmallow fondant from a recipe easily found on the internet and colored it dark pink, light pink, light green, and left some white. I made the 3 layers completely separate and then put them together using the wedding tier type plastic tubes and bases for structure - This is very important when making multi layer cakes.
I used the fondant to make all the designs on the cakes, stripes, diamonds and flowers. Fondant is really easy to work with and I layered the pieces using water so the designs would stick to the first fondant layer on the cake. For the border I simply used the leftover fondant and rolled it into little balls.
The baby on top is from Wilton.
