Coolest Baby Shower Carriage Cake

I made this Baby Shower Carriage Cake for my daughter and my niece who are both having baby boys about 3 weeks apart. I made one lemon cake mix in a 10 inch standard cake pan and 6 cupcakes in silver cupcake liners (2 were not used).

I slightly trimmed the top outer edge to give a rounded shape. I cut a wedge to make the buggy shape. I used a simple buttercream frosting. The white and brown candies are M&M’s. I cut the edges from a paper doily placemat and covered both sides with scotch tape to prevent the buttercream form making grease marks.

I used the cupcakes for the babies and the wheels. I left the silver cupcake liners showing because I thought it looked cute that way. I piped melted chocolate from a Ziploc bag with the corner cut off for the baby faces and the wheel spokes. The white squiggles were made with a piping bag. The bow was made out of Tootsie Rolls heated for a few seconds in the microwave and then rolled out on oiled wax paper. It looked great in this picture, but by the next day at the shower, it had started to melt onto the cake.

Next time I make anything like that I’ll put it on at the last minute.
