Coolest Baby Shower Castle Cake

I agreed to make my friend’s baby shower cake when she was only 2 months pregnant. Two weeks before the shower she finally got in touch with me to give me the theme. Princess Castle! I viewed many pictures of cakes on the internet and found this site most helpful.

This cake was fun putting together. The bottom is 2 chocolate hexagon layers filled with butter cream and the second layer is vanilla filled with lemon curd. To save time I made the decorations early. I made the flowers from royal icing. I also made the towers ahead of time as well. I used the tube from a roll of toilet paper and covered them with gum paste. (I stuck wooden skewers through the sides and glued them before covering them. This would allow me to slide the skewers into the cake and would hold the towers in place.)

For the torrents, I cut off the bottom of a regular ice cream cone and covered it in gum paste as well as a wafer cone. After they dried, I assembled them, using royal icing as the glue.

The cake was a big hit!
