Cool Homemade Baby Shower Quilt Cake

I made this baby shower quilt cake for a co-worker/friend’s baby shower. The idea came from one of the older Wilton Yearbooks. I used a 12 x 16 Wilton cake pan and two(should have used 3)cake mixes. Using just two mixes caused it to be a little under the 2″ I wanted it to be.

I used tip 18 to fill in each ‘quilt square’. It’s best to have enough tips so you don’t have to keep changing out for each color. The hardest part of this cake for me was the fringe around the edges. Although it was easy to do, it’s very hard on the hands. You’re supposed to use candy molds and make rattles, bottles, etc and put that in the squares but since I’m not a candy maker, I did not do that.

This is a very fun cake to make and I’m looking forward to doing a different ‘baby cake’.
