Bag Cake

Bag Cake

I made this bag cake for my sister-in-law's 30th birthday. She loves bags and I started to make novelty cakes so wanted to give it a try. I tried to stand it up to look 3-d but the icing keep breaking so I laid it down. The cake is a vanilla sponge but I added mixed spice to the batter which worked well.

I made the bow from marzipan. It is two large rectangles folded over and a smaller one to cover the folds and two more rectangles for the tails. I also made the handle from marzipan and painted it with brown food colouring that I made mixing various colours and used toothpicks to hold them in place while the dried overnight. I used royal icing to put on the VL and squares.

I had lots of fun making this cake and got some ideas from this site as well for the colours. My sister-in-law was really happy when I showed her it and I got lots of compliments.
