Barbie Nurse Cake
This cake was fun. I made this Barbie cake for my sister in law, well its one of 3 of them I made for her. Used regular cake mix from the store. My sister in law graduated from nursing school just before her birthday. so I made it a nurse.
I baked the cake, let it cool and then iced it with home made Wilton buttercream. It shapes so much better than store bought icing and dries quicker. So I iced it a nice bright white, I made a nurse apron out of fondant bought from the store. I used Wilton food coloring and painted the red cross on it and outlined it with the red also. Let that dry a bit then put it on the cake.
I made a stethoscope also out of fondant and painted it with silver and black acrylic paint. I also made a nurse hat out of fondant. And painted the cross with food coloring. I had to dab on icing on the hat to have it stay on her head.
When icing the body I put all the icing on and used an upward motion, one stroke to get the pleats in her skirt. Then iced around the bottom. I also made her shirt our of fondant. I had to wet the underside to make like glue to seal it on her.
