Cute Homemade Green and Blue Buttercream Barbie Cake

I am new at making decorated character cakes but I got the inspiration and idea from this site to make this Barbie cake. I really thank all the members who have contributed so many wonderful cakes. I made this cake for my daughter’s 8th birthday which falls on 31st Dec.

I baked a strawberry cake mix in a Pyrex glass bowl. But only after I baked I found out that 1 cake mix is not enough. Again I baked 2 packs of chocolate cake which was too much for the 2 litre bowl. I finally cut the chocolate cake and fitted it under the sliced strawberry cake to form the skirt. I cooled it completely and then made a small opening at the top to keep the barbie.

I used buttercream icing with Wilton blue and green gel colours and piped with Wilton nozzle 2010. I dint make the base separately since the height of the skirt was perfect for the barbie. I inserted the Barbie’s torso only by removing the legs. I dint frost the cake. I directly piped the flowers using the icing.

I piped the bow for the Barbie using chocolate icing using the Wilton nozzle 104.

While cutting the strawberry and chocolate cake, layers looked and tasted amazing with the icing.
