Easy Homemade Barbie Doll Birthday Cake Idea Using Candy Dots

This Barbie Doll Birthday Cake Idea was my first time making this cake. It was so simple. I bought a Barbie doll from the dollar store. For the dress I used a glass bowl (2 qt. Pampered Chef measuring/mixing bowl). For the bottom of the dress I made an 8″ round cake.

For this cake, I used two Duncan Hines cake mixes and made the “pound cake” recipe on the side of the box for a firmer but just as delish as the regular recipe. After the cake was completely cooled, I took the pants and legs off of the doll, cut a hole on the top of the cake just big enough to put Barbie in the cake.

I then frosted the whole cake before inserting the doll. I filled in the gap at the waist with a star tip. For the dress I took candy dots, dabbed a little frosting on the back for “glue” and placed them around the cake. I made a birthday sign on the computer with card stock and hot glued it to the Barbie hands with tooth picks.

Everyone couldn’t believe the cake was “real” until we cut into it. It was a big hit. This is extremely easy to make, but takes time. Baking, cooling, frosting and deciding on how you want to decorate it. For a frosting that really holds up, make your own butter cream frosting and add 2 Tbls. of Meringue powder for durability.
