Cool Homemade Yellow Barbie Doll Cake

I made this Barbie Doll Cake for my daughter’s 3rd birthday. This was a recipe that came with the Pampered Chef Classic Batter Bowl.

I baked 2 boxed chocolate cakes (separately), both in the bowl, then turned them out to cool. Once cooled and leveled, the bottom 2″ was cut off the large end of one of the cakes to serve as the bottom of the dress (and add extra length).

Then the 2nd cake was placed on top of the base from the other cake and secured with icing to form the entire skirt of the dress.

Once the dress was assembled, a hole was cut out of the top. I used a small measuring spoon to hollow out the hole for where the Barbie was placed. To prepare the Barbie, I chose to remove the legs (which snap off at the waist) and the clothing that came on it, then wrapped the bottom in a small baggie so as not to get cake crumbs in the leg sockets.

Once the cake was assembled and the doll was inserted securely in the hole, I finished the cake by smoothing icing on the dress, creating a bodice for the dress using a star decorating tip, and adding flowers and a rope at the base for decoration.

The icing used was the standard Wilton cake decorating icing with golden yellow coloring for the main part of the dress and bodice, and pink and lilac purple icing for the flowers.

  1. Hobby Lobby Stores carry just the top barbie piece to make a cake like this. On the bottom of it is like a stick piece to push into the cake. It’s in with all the cake pans and stuff. My mom made me one of thes when I was a little girl. When my daughters saw this cake, they asked me to make them one for their birthdays.
