Homemade Barnyard Birthday Cake

Homemade Barnyard Birthday Cake

I made this Barnyard Birthday Cake for my son's first birthday. I baked 2 sheet cakes as the base and layered them. I baked a 9X13 cake to make the barn and about 9 cupcakes for the silo and the haystacks.

I cut the 9X13 cake and stacked it up using dowels to hold it. I then carved the roof shape. The silo is stacked up cupcakes with a dowel through them. The fence is pretzel sticks held together with chocolate. The pig mud is chocolate icing. The dirt under the tractor is crumbled up Oreos. The haystacks are cupcakes with the grass tip to decorate.

All the icing is homemade whipped cream, because that is what my family likes. It is the Wilton recipe for stable whipped cream icing. The animals are from my son's Fisher Price farm and he had the tractor. Since it was his 1st birthday I made a separate haystack for him to use as a smash cake. Everyone loved it.
