Coolest Baseball Field Birthday Cake

For my little brother’s 5th birthday I decided I wanted to throw him a real party. I did a baseball theme, so the cake was of course, a Baseball Field Birthday Cake!

I made a chocolate cake in a 9×13″ pan and one vanilla cupcake (the rest of the batter I used to make another cake in the shape of a baseball). When the cake was baked and cooled I cut off a few inches from the long side to make a square.

Then I frosted the whole cake in green frosting and wrapped thick strips of green fondant around the sides.

With a knife I made an outline in the frosting where the bases would be and filled it in with chocolate cake crumbs from the extra cake that I had cut off.

Then I filled a pastry bag with more green frosting, and using the writing tip, I piped an outline around the where I had put the cake crumbs to make it more defined. Then I piped the grass, using the same tip.

I cut off a part of the bottom of the cupcake and smushed it a little to make it rounder. Then I frosted it in white and made the strings with red frosting. And last, but not least were the bases, which I made with white frosting piped in the shape of the bases and then filled in.
