Coolest Baseball Field Cake

My son turned 5 this year and just finished his first season of baseball. He specifically asked for a baseball field cake, so this is what I came up with.

I used a 12×12 square cake pan, and just trimmed two sides to make it the shape of a baseball field. I crushed up graham crackers for the dirt. I would also recommend that you put the dirt go on last. If you put the dirt on first, as you add the grass (using the Wilton grass tip), it will pick up the crumbs and not stick to the cake.

I added the bases and lines on top of the ‘dirt’ with white decorators icing (the kind in the tube) and topped it off with a baseball (I used the mini ball pan and put two halves together). I had to cut off a small amount of the bottom of the baseball to ensure it would stay on the cake.

It was a ‘hit’ at the party!
